Track guide
Demon Raceway
The Devil is in the detail!
The Demon Raceway at Aldershot is a high speed, challenging track. Simple in layout to the casual observer, local drivers know how challenging it can be. With aggressive kerbs everywhere that will have you on your roof in the blink of an eye, accuracy is the key to fast lap times around here.
The Sweeper
Your lap begins with ‘The Sweeper’ and banked curve taken at very high speed. The best line is hugging the inside all the way around as that avoids most of the bumps. As you exit you need to start going wider in order to start braking and lining yourself up for the fast approaching tight Hairpin.
Hairpin
You really need to get a braking marker sorted to allow you to slow down at the correct point to make the corner. Going slightly wide is forgiven somewhat, but will loose you time. Its better to keep your head and stay accurate. This is one of the most popular overtaking points, so expect to be attacked from behind!
Inner Sweeper
Patience is the key to this turn. Sling it in with lots of power and you will either spin out or most likely the front tyres will just scrub, causing excessive wear and sending you wide. Keep a good throttle control and build on corner exit for the short straight.
Rostrum 1
Coming down the straight you want to be just left of centre on the track. Pick your braking marker, the strip of darker tarmac can be a good reference here. Use an early turn in for defence from overtakes, or go a tad wider to set yourself up for Rostrum 2
Rostrum 2
Nice and steady here. Being precise is the key. Time can be lost, but not a lot of time can be gained. drive out hard on the exit but only go about half to two-thirds towards the outside of the exit as this will set you up for the chicane
Chicane
Described by multiple BRCA Touring Car champion Chris Grainger as “probably one of the most difficult corners on any track in the UK” this chicane has many approaches possible, but only one line that is quick. Stay off the aggressive kerbs or you find yourself in the air or on your roof. To get it right requires speed, but with pinpoint accuracy.
Race control
Keep it tight and hug the kerb. This is very slippery in damp or cold conditions and is an area of the track that stays shaded by the trees most of the time.
Car Park
A simple looking corner, yet an important one as this affects your drive down the straight. Hugging the kerb tight and then letting off the steering as you reach the apex to allow you to drive hard to slingshot you down the straight probably works best.
